Derek Owusu Boateng is a professional Ghanaian midfielder. The sportsman was born in the city of Accra, Ghana on May 2, 1983.
A 10-year old Derek Boateng entered the youth academy of his local side called Liberty Professionals. When he was 16, the footballer signed a professional contract with a Greek club Kalamata FC and performed for the team till the year of 2001, when he joined Panathinaikos FC and was played at the berth of an attacking midfielder and a forward.
Derek Boateng also played for such clubs as AIK Fotboll, Beitar Jerusalem FC, 1. FC Köln and Getafe CF at different stages of his career. In 2011 the player was transferred to the Ukrainian side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk FC. Two years later he switched to London side Fulham. In the summer 2014 Boateng joined a Spanish side Rayo Vallecano.
At the international level Derek Boateng featured for the Ghana National Football Team (the Black Stars) at the FIFA World Youth Championship (2001) which was held in Argentina, when his team took the second place.
Derek Boateng is the double champion of the Israeli Premier League (in the seasons of 2006/2007 and 2007/2008).
