A Brazilian goalkeeper Nélson de Jesus Silva, aka Dida was born on 7 October 1973.
Dida started out in the junior team of Vitória, where he spent the last year of his youth career. In 1993, the goalkeeper received the first opportunity on the senior squad. His debut year was lined with 24 appearances. In 1994, the footballer transferred to Cruzeiro, where the following four years of his career passed. He managed a solid performance, winning numerous titles including the Campeonato Mineiro and the Recopa Sudamericana. Altogether the keeper featured in 120 matches. In 1998, Dida had a brief spell at Swiss club Lugano.
In 2000, the footballer joined Milan. His club career at the Rossoneri would span for ten years. At first, Dida was loaned to Corinthians. The keeper spent a fortunate season with the temporary team gaining further honors. He was awarded with the Revista Placar Bola de Prata as Corinthians came first at the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Campeonato Paulista. After he had returned to Milan, the keeper started to make rare appearances, but very soon he became the squad’s regular. Whilst performing for the club, Dida made starts almost in all fixtures establishing himself as a key player. He won the 2003 Coppa Italia and the 2004 Italian Super Cup. Apart from this, the footballer gained other numerous awards. In total, he made 206 appearances for Milan.
In 2010, Dida served a two-year long loan at Corinthians featuring in 8 matches. In 2012, a contract was penned with Portuguesa. In 2013 the experienced goalkeeper signed a contract with Gremio.
A Brazilian international during eleven years, Dida had many successful runs with the national squad debuting for it in 1995. He got 91 calls for the national side, winning the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Confederations Cup (two times: in 1997 and 2005), the 1999 Copa América. He was also a member of the squad that finished in the third position in the 1996 Summer Olympics.
