Diego Alves Carreira is a Brazilian goalkeeper who currently plays for Valencia CF and the national team of Brazil.
His first club was Atlético Mineiro and he was enjoying his time there until an ambitious Spanish club Almeria scrambled its way through to the Primera for the first time in their history.
At first he had difficulties in getting to the main squad of the Spanish club as he was behind the great David Cobeño. With time Diego got to be included in the starting 11 and with his help the club reached the 8th position in the championship.
In August of 2008 Cobeño had to leave the club for Rayo Vallecano. It meant that Alves was set to be the main keeper for the season 2008/09.
The Brazilian signed for Valencia in 2011 and this has reunited him with his former coach Unai Emery. He made his debut for ‘the Bats’ on September 13, 2011 in the Champions League against Belgian Genk.
As far as the national career is concerned Alves was chosen to represent Brazil at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, however, the coach preferred Renan to Diego.
