Dimitris Salpingidis is a Greek forward currently playing for PAOK in the Superleague Greece. He was born on 18 August 1981 in Thessaloniki.
The product of PAOK youth system, Dimitris joined the first team of the parent club in 1999. However, the first three seasons he spent out on loan at Larissa and at Kavala. With Kavala FC, Salpingidis became the top scorer of the second division amassing 25 goals in 43 matches in the 2000-2002 seasons. Returning from loan ahead of the 2002/03 campaign, he shortly cemented his place in the starting eleven and helped PAOK to pull off the season as the Greek Cup winner. Overall, he made a total of 51 goals in 111 games in all competitions for a four-year stint.
In between 2006 and 2010, Salpingidis played for Panathinaikos. He was an instrumental player in the 2009/10 season as the club won the Greek Superleague and became the Greek Cup winner. All in all, Dimitris scored 46 goals in 120 appearances for Panathinaikos during his four-year spell at the club.
In the summer 2010, Salpingidis returned to PAOK. He recorded 22 goals in 98 matches for the club during the 2010-12 seasons.
Dimitris Salpingidis is a regular international for the Greece national team since 2002. He cut a brilliant figure during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification play-off match against Ukraine scoring the winning goal and thus promoting his team to the knock-out stage. It was Salpingidis who scored the maiden goal for Greece in a Euro 2012 opener against Poland on 8 June 2012.
