Djibril Cissé is a French striker, born on 12 August 1981 in Arles, France.
From 1989 till 1996, Djibril trained in the academy of Arles-Avignon. In 1996 the footballer moved to the youth system of Nîmes and later continued his youth career in Auxerre, where he got prepared for a professional start.
In 1998 Cissé penned his first contract with Auxerre. The player performed for the club during six years and became one of the best strikers of the French team ever. Djibril amassed 70 goals in 128 matches and his crowning achievement drew the attention of various European clubs. English side Liverpool made a tempting offer both to the footballer and his club, counting on completing his signing as soon as that was possible. In the summer the same year, Cissé officially became a player of ‘The Reds’ and netted 13 goals in 49 games for the new team during two years.
In 2006 Djibril returned to his native France to seal a permanent deal with Marseille. The footballer made 58 appearances and fired 24 goals for the club during two seasons. In the summer 2008, Cissé’s French career ended, when English side Sunderland offered him a loan move. The striker featured in 35 games and kicked ten goals for the temporary club during one year.
In 2009 Djibril went to Greek side Panathinaikos for two years and found the net 43 times in 61 matches. In the summer 2011, Italian side Lazio expressed their wish to secure the player’s services and Cissé accepted their offer. During six months from the summer 2011 till January 2012, the footballer made 18 appearances and went on to net one time for the new club. In the winter 2012, English side QPR bought the French striker, who got an opportunity to show his skills in eight appearances on the pitch, where he chipped in six goals. One year later though Djibril was sent on loan to Al-Gharafa club from Qatar.
In the summer 2013 Djibril moved to Russia accepting the offer from Kuban Krasnodar. Half a year later he joined a French side Bastia.
From 1998 till 2002, Djibril was capped 19 times and contributed six goals for the France national U-21 team. From 2002 he has taken part in 41 matches and banged in nine goals for the full national squad.
