Dmytro Chygrynskiy is a center back for Shakhtar Donetsk and Ukrainian national team. He was born on 7 November 1986 in Iziaslav, Ukraine.
Dmytro began his career at the football academy of UFK Lviv in 2000 before joining Halychyna-Karpaty Lviv in 2002. However, Dmytro’s stay at Lviv wasn’t long, as in the same year he moved with his family to Donetsk, and soon joined Shakhtar-2, making a total of 43 appearances and scoring 2 goals during a three-year stint at the new club. In 2004 experienced and matured Chygrynskiy was promoted to the first team of the Donetsk club. In 2005 the defender was loaned to Metalurh Zaporizhya to get more match practice. Dmytro played 15 matches and scored two goals for his temporary club, and then returned to the Miners.
In 2006 Chygrynskiy became a regular at Shakhtar and helped his club to win the Ukrainian championship. In 2008 Dmytro enjoyed a meteoric rise as Shakhtar became the champions of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup winners. A year later the defender won the UEFA Cup and it was revealed that Chygrynskiy is transferred to Spanish Barcelona next season. From 2002 to 2009 Dmytro made a total of 83 appearances and scored 7 goals for Shakhtar.

On 12 September 2009 Dmytro made his debut for the new club in a 2-0 win against Getafe. Unfortunately for Chygrynskiy he couldn’t play for Barça in the Champions League, because he already played for Shakhtar in that season. All in all, that season Chygrynskiy made only league 12 appearances. However, Dmytro became the champion of Spain and won FIFA Club World Cup.
In July 2010 Barcelona experienced serious financial difficulties and they had to sell Chygrynskiy, who didn’t play too convincing in his debut season. As a result, the Ukrainian was sold back to Shakhtar for 15 million Euros. Since then the defender has won the Ukrainian Premier League and the Ukrainian Cup three times.
From 2002 to 2006 Chygrynskiy played for practically every youth team of Ukraine, totaling 36 caps and 3 goals. A bit later the defender reached the semifinals of the UEFA Under-21 Championship. By the end of the championship the footballer was included in the symbolic Team of the Tournament.
In 2006 Chygrynskiy went to Germany to represent Ukraine at FIFA World Cup 2006, but shortly after a severe injury ruined his plans. He was also a candidate for Euro 2012, but due to injury was unable to help his team.
