Donny Gorter is a defender of AZ. He was born on 15 June 1988 in Lugano, Switzerland.
Gorter was born in Switzerland, but he is not a citizen of his native country. Donny’s father Edwin Gorter was a professional footballer and performed for local Lugano. When his son was two years old, Edwin moved to the Netherlands in order to perform for the new club and took his family with him.
Donny went in for football at the age of six, when he joined St. Willebrord side RKSV in 1994. The young player drew the attention of NAC Breda scouts that won him over to their academy. However, Gorter did not stay there for long and soon moved to the youth system of PSV, but before the 2007/2008 season, the footballer changed his mind and returned to NAC Breda, which was a good choice, as he was given a place in the main team at once. Donny’s senior début came on 26 August 2007 in the home 5-0 victory over Feyenoord. The defender scored his first goal only one year later, on 21 September 2008, when he found the net of Roda in the away game. In April 2009, the Swiss player extended his contract with NAC Breda till 30 June 2013.
During his entire career at ‘Yellow Army’, Gorter made 80 appearances and banged in eight goals. In June 2012, the footballer finalized a move to AZ on a four-year deal.
