Dušan Basta is a halfback for Udinese. He was born on 18 August 1984 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Dušan’s youth career started at Padinska Skela where the young player studied and played for the youth team for a few years. Soon Dušan was scouted and signed for the youth academy of Red Star Belgrade. Dušan studied at Red Star academy until 2002.
In 2002, at the age of 18, Dušan joined the club’s first team and signed his first professional contract with Red Star Belgrade until 2008. Since 2002 Dušan periodically appeared as both a starter and a substitute. Despite that Dušan didn’t become a key player at the club and wasn’t able to fully realize his potential.
In 2003 Red Star management decided to loan Dušan to Jedinstvo Ub for him to earn experience. During the 2003/04 season Dušan was a regular and scored an impressive 7 goals in 26 appearances for the Serbian club.
In 2008 Dušan was scouted and acquired by Udinese. After the transfer to the Italian club Basta was loaned to Lecce for the 2008/09 season. During his debut Serie A season Dušan didn’t feature much, with a total of only 7 appearances. After returning to Udinese Dušan was irregularly used as a starter. At present, the Serbian midfielder continues to play for Udinese with a total of 47 appearances and 5 goals.
Since 2005 Dušan has been called up to play for Serbia national team with 4 caps so far. From 2006 to 2007 Dušan Basta represented Serbia U-21 totaling 9 caps.
