Duško Tošić was born on 19 January 1985 in Zrenjanin, SFR Yugoslavia. He spent his childhood not far from his native town at Orlovat village.
At the age of 17 he started his senior career at OFK Beograd. The 2006/07 season Duško spent playing for FC Sochaux. Soon a Serbian defender attracted attention of German, Italian and Spanish clubs. Finally, Tošić opted for SV Werder Bremen and represented it from 2007 till 2010. In 2010, he moved to Portsmouth FC. However, in the same year he was given out on loan to Queens Park Rangers. In 2011, he starred for Real Betis, on loan from Red Star Belgrade for which he performed from 2010 till 2012.
On 15 November 2006 Duško made his debut on the international level in the friendly match against Norway. Actually, that match ended in a draw (1-1). Tošić was also a holder of the Serbian Cup in the 2011/12 season. Since 2012 he has been playing for Gençlerbirliği S.K.
In June 2008 the defender married Jelena Karleuša a Serbian pop singer and they gave birth to two daughters Athena and Nicka.
