Édgar Lugo is a Mexican midfielder. Édgar was born on 31 December 1984 in Mexico City. Édgar’s father Gerardo was also a footballer who took part in the 1978 World Cup.
Édgar Lugo emerged through the youth system of Cruz Azul where he spent the first 6 years of his senior career. In 2008 he became the runner-up of the Clausura and the Apertura. In 2009 and 2010 Cruz Azul reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions’ League, however the team lost both of the crunch games. The midfielder lost his place in the first team under new coach Enrique Meza. In 2010 Lugo was farmed out to Puebla and then to Monarcas Morelia.
The footballer’s impressive performance for the Monarchy earned him a permanent agreement with Santos Laguna in the summer 2012. In February 2012 Édgar Lugo made his senior debut for the Mexico national team in a game against Colombia.
