Edwin van der Sar is a former Dutch goalkeeper born on 29 October 1970 in Voorhout, the Netherlands.
Edwin started out his professional career with Ajax in 1990 and played for the giant Dutch club for nine years. For that time he collected four Eredivisie titles and three Dutch Cups. He also announced about himself on European arena as van der Sar the 1991/92 UEFA Cup and the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League with Ajax. For his outstanding performances van der Sar was named the Best European Goalkeeper in 1995. In 1996, the player was close to the second UEFA Champions League trophy but lost the Final on penalties to Juventus. Overall, he made 312 appearances in the Ajax shirt. In 1999, van der Sar moved to Juventus and stayed with Italian club for two seasons recording the UEFA Intertoto Cup with them. After that followed four successful seasons at Fulham and in 2005 van der Sar switched to the giant Premier League side Manchester United. He claimed four Premier League titles and two Football League Cups together with the Red Devils. Moreover, he made his second UEFA Champions League success in the 2007/08 season, becoming one of the few players who won the trophy with two different clubs. Van der Sar also possesses an array of individual awards. He is a two-time Best European Goalkeeper, four-time Dutch Football Goalkeeper of the Year and also the holder of the 1998 Dutch Golden Shoe.
Edwin van der Sar was a regular international for the Netherlands national team since 1995 till 2008. With his 130 caps to the national squad he holds the record as the most capped player for the Dutch.
