Eiji Kawashima is a Japanese goalkeeper for the Belgian club Standard Liège and the Japan national football team who was born on 20 March 1983.
Before starting a senior career at Omiya Ardija in 2001, Kawashima had trained at the amateur teams of Yononishi Junior High School and Urawa Higashi High School. His pro-football début came in 2002. Having made 41 appearances for the club, Eiji left Omiya Ardija for Nagoya Grampus Eight in 2004 and debuted for the team later that year.
In 2007 Kawashima signed for Kawasaki Frontale becoming the club’s first choice keeper. He appeared in the team’s every single game during that season, including the matches of J1 League and the AFC Champions League.
Following his outstanding play at the World Cup 2010, Eiji joined Belgian side Lierse S.K. In the summer of 2012 the Japanese transferred to Standard Liège.
His most important personal award is the best goalkeeper at J1 League 2009.
