Uwa Elderson Echiéjilé, commonly known as simply Elderson, is a defender, born on 20 January 1988 in Benin City, Nigeria.
Uwa started his youth career at the Pepsi Football Academy, where he spent some time before joining Wikki Tourists youth system in 2001.
In 2004 Uwa began his professional career in Nigeria signing a contract with Bendel Insurance. In the first season the young defender made several appearances for the club however it wasn’t enough for him to be at full fitness. Overall, Elderson featured in 35 matches for three seasons.
In 2007 Uwa caught the eye of the French side Rennes which showed great interest in him. The management of the club wanted to purchase the young highly skilled left back who could provide solid defensive cover. In the summer 2007 Elderson penned a permanent contract with Rennes where he spent three years. During this period he didn’t secure a place in the starting XI being predominantly a backup player. From 2007 to 2010 Uwa played 19 games for Rennes.
In the summer 2010 Elderson moved to Portugal where he signed for Braga. As a constant challenger for the Primeira Liga title Braga was a perfect place for Uwa to unlock his potential. From 2010 to 2014 Elderson took part in 73 matches for this Portuguese team.
Later on he moved to a French side Monaco.
In 2007 Uwa Elderson featured in 5 matches and found the net once for the Nigeria U-20 team. Since 2009 he sometimes is called up to the senior side.
