A Brazilian footballer Elias Mendes Trindade plays for Flamengo on loan from Sporting CP as a midfielder. He was born on 16 May 1985.
In 1997, Elias started his junior career with Palmeiras, where he spent eight years playing for youth teams. After finishing his trainings at the academy, Elias was let go without being tapped by the squad.
In 2005, Trindade signed his first pro contract with Náutico. But there he got little playing time, making only 19 appearances and scoring 5 goals. So in January 2007, Elias moved to São Bento, where he was groomed during the second half of the 2006/2007 season. Over that period, the midfielder appeared 11 times and scored two goals.
In the summer 2007, he joined Juventus, where he featured in 28 matches and netted 6 goals. In 2008, a move to Ponte Preta happened, where he didn’t stay for long, making 30 appearances and amassing 7 goals. In 2008, a long-term contract was penned with Corinthians, where the most successful part in the midfielder’s career began. Elias soon became the team’s anchor player, appearing 94 times and scoring 13 goals.
In 2011, Trindade moved to Spain, where he joined Atlético Madrid. Elias performed for the club for half a year, netting two goals in 14 matches. In the summer 2011, a contract with Sporting was signed for a fee of €40 million. The midfielder made occasional appearances during his debut season, featuring in 30 fixtures of the team.
In 2010, Elias was called up to perform for the Brazil national squad for the first time. Since then, he has made more than 10 appearances for the team.
