Elkin Soto Jaramillo, better known just as Elkin Soto, was born on 4 August 1980 Manizales, Colombia. He performs on the pitch as a left-footed midfielder.
Soto started his career in 1998 Club Atlético Nacional S.A., a professional football team in Medellín. The footballer got into the senior team in 1999, performing for CD Once Caldas, where he was a regular player till 2006, except the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons. In 2004 Elkin Soto together with his club won Once Caldas Copa Libertadores. All-in-all, Elkin appeared in 194 matches and netted 25 goals for the team. In 2006, the midfielder was loaned to the best Ecuadorian club Barcelona SC Guayaquil. There he played 44 matches and scored seven goals.
In 2007, the player was scouted by the German Bundesliga club Mainz-05. But the passage to a new team was accompanied by the scandals related to the inconsistency of the contract. In this connection, the player soon received a fine amounting to €150,000 and was banned for four months. At the beginning of the 2007/2008 Soto finally came in on the pitch in the colours of his new club. Soon he extended his contract until 2011, and then up to 2013. In total the player performed in 26 matches and scored nine goals for Mainz.
Soto played a total of 21 times in the Colombian national team, netting at six goals.
