Emanuele Giaccherini is a winger for Sunderland born on 5 May 1985 in Bibbiena, Italy.
Emanuele played for a local football club until Cesena brought the 17-year-old player into their youth program. Two years later he was sent on loan to Forlì to gain experience. During the 2004/05 season at the club he made 22 appearances and scored 1 goal.
In 2005 Giaccherini was sent out on loan to another club, Bellaria-Igea Marina. At the new club the young winger didn’t become a mainstay but still played a lot of games in the starting lineup. From 2005 to 2007 Emanuele Giaccherini made 37 appearances and scored 3 goals for Bellaria-Igea.
In 2007 A.C. Pavia showed interest in the player and signed him on loan. During the 2007/08 season at Pavia Giaccherini started to impress by scoring 9 goals in 27 appearances.
After a season at Pavia side, he was brought back to Cesena, and immediately became one of the pillars of the club’s first squad. In the following 2 years Giaccherini scored 19 goals in 96 matches for the parent club.
His success with Cesena attracted the attention of the Italian giants Juventus. The club offered 3 million Euros for Giaccherini and the deal was agreed on. In August 2011 Emanuele signed a long-term contract with the White-Blacks and featured in 40 matches for the club during two seasons.
In the summer 2013 the player joined Sunderland in a £6.5m deal.
