Juan Emmanuel Culio was born on August 30, 1983 in Mercedes, Buenos Aires. Till the age of 19 the future midfielder worked as a constructor and then started playing football for different little-known teams of bottom leagues. Shortly he played for two Argentinean clubs at the same time, but he was not a regularly capped player in either of them. In 2007 Culio played for Club de Deportes La Serena SADP (Chile) and soon was signed by a Romanian club CFR Cluj for €600,000. In August 2007 the footballer made his first appearance for the new team.
In September 2008 Culio’s 2 shots in the first match at a group stage of the UEFA Champions League led CFR Cluj to the glorious victory over Roma AS and the footballer was announced the Man of the Match. In December 2008 the player was chased by Rubin FC, but his transfer fee was too high for the club.
In September 2010 a Russian club Kuban FC was very interested in Culio, but the parties failed to negotiate the price again.
In January 2011 Juan Emmanuel Culio signed a contract with Galatasaray till the year of 2014. The club paid €2 million for the footballer.
Culio was loaned to Orduspor for the 2011/2012 season and to Mersin İdmanyurdu for the season of 2012/2013.
After a successfull spell with the latter Culio was offered to join a Spanish side Deportivo la Coruna in August 2013.
