Emmanuel Yaw Mangongtong Frimpong was born in Kumasi, Ghana and plays as a midfielder for Barnsley and the Ghana national team. He can play both as centre and defensive midfielder.
Frimpong and his family moved to London when he was a child. At the age of nine he began to play for the Arsenal youth team. Emmanuel made his reserve team debut on 5 October 2009 in the match against Chelsea F.C. In August 2010 the footballer was seriously injured and skipped nine months. In a year, in August 2011 the footballer made his Premier League debut in the game against Newcastle and the Champions League debut in the match against Udinese.
On 1 January 2012, Emmanuel was sent on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers and later on to Fulham.
In January 2014 Frimpong made a permanent move to Barnsley.
From 2006 till 2008 Frimpong was capped for the England national U-16 and U-17 team but preferred to stick to the Ghana national team if asked to play for a senior squad.
