Emmerson Boyce is a defender of Wigan Athletic. He was born on 24 September 1979 in Aylesbury, England.
The footballer’s youth career took off in 1990, when he joined the academy of local Aylesbury Athletic, located in his native town. Year after year Emmerson was developing his best defender qualities and improving his level of performance at that position. In 1995 Boyce drew the attention of Luton Town, which offered him a move. The footballer accepted the offer and spent another three fruitful years in the new youth system, eventually getting ready to play at the professional level.
In 1998 Emmerson penned a senior contract and clinched a place in the starting eleven almost at once. During six years, the defender made 185 appearances and netted eight goals for Luton Town as a regular and stayed on the bench only if he was physically tired.
In 2004 Boyce finalized a move to Crystal Palace, where he performed during two seasons. The footballer managed to earn a place in the starting line-up and left it only in the summer 2006. Emmerson featured in 69 games and fired one goal for the club during his spell.
In the summer 2006, the English defender was offered to become a part of Wigan Athletic. Boyce was delighted to have an opportunity to play in the Premier League and that is why his transfer was completed in short term. From 2006 till the summer 2012, Emmerson made 158 appearances and went on to net seven times for ‘Latics’, where he continues his performance up till now.
From 2008, the footballer was capped four times for the Barbados national team.
