Emrah was born in Malatya, Turkey. He started his youth football career of a goalkeeper at Battalgazi Belediyespor in 2001. From 2002 to 2004 the footballer played for the youth team of Malatyaspor.
On August 26, 2004 Emrah signed a professional contract with the club. Playing for Malatyaspor for five years, he managed to take part in 52 matches. Later the footballer played for Boluspor. He made his debut for the team on April 26, 2009 in the match against İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi. In 2010, Emrah was sent on loan to Adana Demirspor and later was purchased by Tarsus Idman Yurdu.
Emrah Tuncel became a player of Akhisar Belediyespor on November 8, 2011. He has been signed until May 31, 2013.
The footballer was first capped by the national football team in 2007. He made his international debut on December 9, 2007 in a 1-2 defeat against the Russia national football team.
