Eren Derdiyok was born on 12 June 1988 in the city of Basel, Switzerland. He is a Swiss footballer. His parents came from Turkey, and he was eligible for dual citizenship.
Eren’s parents lived in a Kurdish settlement in the south east of Turkey. Being in an early age he performed for the Basel football club known as BSC Old Boys Basel. In 2005 the footballer became a key player, and netted 10 goals in 18 appearances. He then moved to the main homonymous football club, where he became a champion in 2005. It was there that Derdiyok scored his first career goal. On 6 April 2008, Derdiyok won his first title, the Swiss Cup, he appeared in the final game from the beginning and netted a goal. In 2009 the player was transferred to Bayer Leverkusen, where he debuted in the first match of the season netting a goal. As a result, Eren managed to nail down his place in the first team: Eren made 89 Bundesliga appearances for the Werkself, providing 14 assists and scoring 25 goals. On 2 May 2012, Derdiyok signed a contract for TSG Hoffenheim for the 2012/2013 season until June 2016. The clubs agreed not to disclose all the details of the transfer deal.
At an international level Derdiyok played for the first time on 24 January 2008 as a second-half substitute against England in London. He scored at his first touch of the ball, thereafter he became a part of the Switzerland squad to play at UEFA Euro 2008. It was there that Eren appeared in 3 matches. Derdiyok also appeared in the Switzerland 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup where he played twice. On 26 May 2012, Derdiyok scored his first ever international hat-trick as Switzerland beat Germany to win 5-3 in a friendly match.
