Erik Falkenburg is a midfielder of AZ. He was born on 5 May 1988 in Leiden, Netherlands.
Erik’s career took off in local amateur Oegstgest and continued in other Leiden side club UVS, where he performed during several years.
Falkenburg made his professional début for Rotterdam side Sparta in the away 3-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven. The footballer’s first goal came against Heracles, but it failed to prevent his team from losing 2-1.
On 16 June 2010, Erik sealed a deal with AZ till 30 June 2014. The midfielder was given number 10 shirt and continues to perform for the club up till now. Falkenburg’s first appearance for Alkmaar came in the Europa League qualifier against IFK Göteborg, and the Dutch ran out victorious (2-0). Later on he served a loan spell with N.E.C.
In 2013 Falkenburg was loaned to Go Ahead Eagles.
Erik’s international début came in the European U-21 Championship qualifier, when the Netherlands encountered Liechtenstein and secured a 3-0 victory. The midfielder took part in in 3 fixtures and amassed 3 goals.
