Ermin Zec was born on 18 February 1988 in Bugojno, SFR Yugoslavia. He is a graduate of the NK Iskra Bugojno youth system. By the way, it was Iskra Bugojno where the player began his senior career in 2006.
The 2006/07 season Ermin spent with his native club. However, in the summer of 2007 he joined Croatian club HNK Šibenik for €10,000. From 2007 till 2010 Zec participated in 79 club matches and netted 33 goals. On 21 June 2007 he made his club debut in the match against FC Dinamo. In 2009, he was named the best player of the Croatian League.
In the summer of 2010 a Bosnian striker agreed to a four-year contract with Gençlerbirliği S.K. for €2.5 million. In the team the player was assigned the number 10 shirt. On 14 August 2010 Ermin made his debut in the Süper Lig match against Eskişehirspor. Two weeks later he netted his first goal for the club in the match against Bursaspor.
Zec made his international debut in the friendly match against Slovenia on 19 November 2008 and in May 2010 he scored his first goal for the Bosnia national team in the match against Sweden.
