Ersan Gülüm was born in Australia. He took interest in football in his childhood and joined his first youth club in 1997.
In 2004 he started his professional career playing for Hume City FC, where he featured in 22 games and found the net on one occasion during the season-long spell at the club.
In 2005 Ersan decided to continue his development at Turkish side Manisaspor. He debuted with the first team of his new club in the Turkish Cup fixture against İstanbulspor on 20 September 2006. In 2007 the player left the club. Later he played for Elazığspor (2007/2008) and Adanaspor (2008/2010).
The next season he was sent on loan to Beşiktaş. On 16 July 2010 Ersan had to make an important decision on which country he would like to play for at international level. He preferred to be the part of the Australia national team.
In 2011 Ersan signed the full-time contract with Beşiktaş, where he plays in number 22 jersey.
