Esteban Alvarado is a goalkeeper of AZ. He was born on 28 April 1989 in Siquirres, Costa Rica.
Esteban took part in the 2007 and the 2009 U-20 World Cups and helped his team to take the fourth place in the latter. Besides, Alvarado was voted the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
The footballer’s career took off in local Saprissa, where he cruised through all youth teams and became the main team player. During his début 2009/2010 season, the keeper made only four appearances. However, that did not prevent him from clinching the title of the Costa Rica National League Champion in 2010. As soon as the player got the golden medal of his league, he decided to finalize a move to Dutch side AZ.
Esteban penned a five-year contract with his new club and started to perform for the youth team of Alkmaar Zaanstreek first, being a third-choice goalkeeper of the main team. In February 2011, two his colleagues were injured, which gave Alvarado an opportunity to become a first-choice keeper. Esteban’s début match came on 12 February 2011 and was not very successful, as AZ lost 0-4 to PSV. After that, the goalkeeper had several chances to make positive display before being substituted by Sergio Romero.
