An Argentine footballer Ezequiel Garay was born on 10 October 1986 in Rosario.
His professional career started at his hometown club Newell’s Old Boys in 2004, when he was 18 years old. Garay made 13 league appearances and scored one goal for Newell’s. His performance caught attention of various European clubs. Racing Santander did its best to secure the footballer’s services.
In the summer 2005, Ezequiel penned a three-year contract and moved to Spain. He managed to clinch a place in the starting line-up and retained it for the spell. But there were some cases when he was out of action. In total, he scored 12 goals in 60 matches for the Spanish team.
In 2008, a contract with Real Madrid was signed. But Racing received Ezequiel again on a season-long loan. In the 2008/2009 season, Garay netted two goals in 24 fixtures for the temporary team. In the summer 2009, he returned to Real Madrid, where he started to make occasional appearances. The two seasons spent with the club were lined with 25 appearances.
Ezequiel understood that he had no career prospects playing for Madrid, so he took the proposal from Benfica to change the club. In the summer 2011, a transfer for a fee of €5.5 million happened. The footballer penned a four-year contract and became the team’s official member. He took part in 128 matches during three seasons and netted 12 goals.
In the summer 2014 Garay completed a move to Zenit St.Petersburg.
In 2008, Ezequiel Garay got 9 calls for the Argentina national team at U-20 level. Since 2007 he has been capped for the senior team.
