Fabian Johnson (born on 11 December 1987 in Munich, Germany) is an American footballer of German origin.
Johnson started his career in 1991 representing Sportfreunde München. In 1996, Fabian transferred to TSV 1860 München, where performed mainly for the U-23 team, making his way on 11 December 2004 in Regional League. By 2007 Fabian had appeared in 43 matches for the reserve team.
The player made his way into the 1860 Munich senior team on 19 July 2006. He debuted in the game against SC Paderborn 07, coming in on the last minute. In the 2005/2006 season, the footballer appeared in the game 3 times, and was then chosen for the senior squad. By 2009, Fabian amassed 90 appearances, scoring a total of 4 goals. Along with this, he performed 6 times in Bundesliga.
In 2009 Johnson transferred to VfL Wolfsburg, where he played 16 matches in view of severe competition. He made his debut only in the fifth round in 2009/2010 season in the game against Bayer, he was sent off on the 76th minute.
On 3 June 2011, the player transferred to Hoffenheim, where he was to make the next step in his football career. Johnson had already shown his ability in the league this season, and scored his first goal for the side in the German Cup. After three years with Hoffenheim, Johnson moved to Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer 2014.
Fabian represented the German national team in the U-17 to U-21 squads. In August 2011, Johnson was invited to the United States national squad for a few friendly matches. Unfortunately Johnson was unable to play as documents required for a FIFA nationality switch from Germany to the United States were in progress. Johnson’s switch was confirmed by FIFA and he can perform for the USA at international level. In November 2011, Johnson debuted in a 0-1 defeat to France. In November 2011, Johnson made his first outstanding international start drawing a penalty in a 3-2 victory against Slovenia. He assured his status at an international level by playing in the FIFA World Cup in June 2012 against Guatemala.
