Federico Balzaretti is the left-back of the football club Palermo. He was born on December 12, 1981 in Turin, Italy.
Federico’s professional career began in 1999 when he signed his first contract with Torino. Before his transition to the main squad Balzaretti had been playing for Torino’s youth teams for years.
From 1999 till 2001 Balzaretti played on loan for Varese, having appeared for the Lombardian team in 44 games. In 2001 Federico went to play for Siena, again on loan, making 16 club appearances that season. After his spell with the Tuscan side the defender returned to Torino where he became one of the key players. All in all, by the summer of 2005, Federico had played in 94 games.
In 2005 Balzaretti was signed by Juventus, Torino’s local rivals. In the next two years he was one of the main choices for the starting 11, sometimes staying on the bench and coming out as a substitute. From 2005 till 2007 he made 57 club appearances, scoring 2 goals.
In 2007 the left-back was acquired by Fiorentina and played in just 6 games in the 2007/2008 season.
In 2008 the player signed the contract with Palermo. The coach of the Sicilian side immediately put Balzaretti into the starting eleven, from which the Italian hardly ever fell out, having become Palermo’s key player on his position as the left defender. He has played in over 150 games for his team since 2008.
In the years 2000-2002 Federico played in 27 games and scored 1 goal for the Italian U21 team.
