Fernando Ezequiel Cavenaghi is an Argentine striker. Fernando was born on 21 September 1983 in O’Brien, a town near Buenos Aires, Argentina.
At the age of seventeen Fernando began his career at a professional level. In 2001 he became the key striker of River Plate. During his spell with this club Cavenaghi was one of the leading goal scorers of the Argentine Primera División. By the time the player was twenty, he prompted interest from the best European football clubs.
In the summer 2004 Cavenaghi was purchased by Spartak Moscow.
In the Russian Premier League Fernando failed to achieve his previous level of effectiveness. Despite the fact that Cavenaghi scored one of the most fabulous goals ever, he didn’t manage to become the fans’ favourite.
In the 2006/2007 season transfer rumors began to spread.
In 2007 Fernando was sold to French outfit Girondins de Bordeaux.
On 26 August 2010 Cavenaghi was farmed out to Spanish club Mallorca.
During the second part of the 2010/2011 campaign the striker was a loan player of Brazilian side Internacional.
On 13 July 2011 River Plate announced that Cavenaghi would rejoin them.
On 15 July 2011 Cavenaghi dissolved an agreement with Bordeaux by mutual consent.
In 2012 the footballer transferred to Villarreal which was relegated to the Segunda División. At the beginning of 2013 the Argentine became part of Mexican side Pachuca but one year later returned to River Plate.
In 2008 Fernando gained his first cap for the Argentina national squad.
