Filip Daems is a Belgian defender, born on 31 October 1978 in Turnhout.
Filip began his career with FCV Alberta Geel, spending there 3 years. In 1989 Filip signed his first professional contract with K.F.C. Verbroedering Geel. Having scrambled through all the youth levels of the club, he was invited to the first team, where played for 3 years. In 1998 Daems joined Lierse SK, which won the Belgian Cup in 1999. Later, Filip moved to Turkey for four years, where he played at Gençlerbirliği. On 31 January 2005 he transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach, which plays in the German First Division.
The footballer missed the 2006/07 season through a serious heel injury. However, after his comeback to the team on 7 September 2007, Filip had no difficulties in becoming a regular. He usually plays on the flanks, but sometimes takes the position of a centre back. Daems has been wearing captain’s armband since January 2009. His contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach expires on 30 June 2013.
The footballer’s international debut came in 2004. From 2004 till 2009 he took part in 7 matches of the Belgium senior national team.
