In 2008 Bolzoni signed his first professional contract with Internazionale, where he had trained at the academy. The 2008/2009 season was not successful for Francesco except when he earned a place in the starting eleven once.
In 2009 Bolzoni attracted the attention of the Italian club Genoa, which wanted to sign a permanent contract with the footballer. In 2009 after short negotiations between Genoa and Inter Bolzoni signed a contract with Genoa where he played for two years. In the 2009/2010 season he was on loan to Frosinone. This season was very successful for the footballer, who was in the starting eleven in 25 matches. In the next season Bolzoni was again on loan and scored 3 goals in 26 games for Siena.
It was an important stage in his career because Siena authorities signed a permanent contract with Bolzoni and acquired 50 percent of his rights. He made a steady start in the 2011/2012 season getting into the starting eleven virtually in all the matches.
After three seasons with Siena Bolzoni completed a move to Palermo in the summer 2013.
From 2007 to 2010 Francesco Bolzoni took part in 14 games for the Italy U-21 national team.
