Francisco Puñal Martínez (also as known as Patxi) is a Spanish footballer playing for CA Osasuna as a midfielder.
He spent his whole career at the Navarrese club except for two seasons on loan to a second-division side Leganés from Madrid. Francisco’s first game for the main squad of that club took place on 15th June 1997 when Leganés played in a draw against Eibar.
After his loan Puñal returned to Osasuna becoming a first team player almost at once. He backed up his success with the first La Liga goal on October 27, 2001 against Mallorca.
During the season 2005/06 Francisco scored 4 times in 34 games becoming one of those to make a historical campaign for his club.
On November 29, 2006 during the last game on the group stage against Odense Boldklub in the UEFA Cup campaign Puñal scored thrice (with an own goal). Throughout the season the midfielder made an outstanding achievement of 50 appearances.
Aged 32, in 2007 Francisco continued to play a significant part in the club’s development. He scored twice during the season 2007/08 by shooting penalties against Getafe and Real Madrid. From 2007 till 2010 Puñal was an undeniable captain of Osasuna after defender Cesar Cuchara had left the squad. For his entire career path Francisco played remarkable 410 matches with 21 goals representing his only club.
