Fyodor Cherenkov is a Soviet retired footballer. He was born in 1959 in Moscow and was noticed by the scouts from FC Spartak Moscow while playing for Kuntsevo Moscow. In 1971 he joined the youth academy of Spartak, graduated in 1977 and was promoted to the first team. Cherenkov became one of the team’s key players. In 1990 he went to France and spent half a year with Red Star Saint-Ouen, nevertheless he returned to Spartak Moscow. In 1994 he retired as a footballer.
Cherenkov earned 34 caps for the USSR national team, but he wasn’t regularly called up to play for them. As a part of Spartak Moscow he won Soviet Top League in 1979, 1987 and 1989. In 1993 the squad was Russian Premier League winner. In 1983 and 1989 Cherenkov was named Soviet Footballer of the Year. Since 1994 he has worked at Spartak.
