Gabriel Batistuta is a retired football player, born in 1969 in Argentina. He began to play for a local team and then was offered to join Newell's Old Boys, with whom he signed a professional contract. After the 1988/89 season Batistuta joined River Plate but had clashed with the coach and fell out of favor. In 1990 he moved to Boca Juniors. He helped his side to win Argentine Primera División (Clausura) in 1990/91.
In 1991/92 Batistuta moved to Italy signing for Fiorentina. He had a prolific first season but the following one wasn’t as good, because the team didn’t manage to avoid relegation though the striker scored 16 goals. After a season Fiorentina won promotion and in 1995/96 they won Coppa Italia and Supercoppa. Batistuta played for Fiorentina until 2000 and then joined Roma on a three-year deal. In his first season Roma won Scudetto and in 2003 he was sent to Internazionale on a loan deal and then left Italy. Between 2003 and 2005 Batistuta played for Qatari side Al-Arabi and after the retirement he returned to Argentina.
Between 1991 and 2002 he played for the Argentina national team. He made his debut in the Copa América in 1991 and helped his team to claim the title. In 1993 they again were Copa América winners.
