Gabriel Ivan Heinze is an Argentinean football player, who was born on 19 April 1978 in Crespo. He currently plays a left back for Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.
Heinze started his career in an Argentine sports club, Newell's Old Boys. Soon he attracted the attention of various European clubs and signed with Real Valladolid in Spain in 1998. Gabriel spent only one season in Spain, and was loaned to Sporting Lisbon.
At the end of 2001 Heinze moved on to Paris Saint-Germain FC, where he netted a couple of goals in 99 appearances in three seasons. In 2004 Gabriel helped the club to win the 2004 French Cup.
In summer 2004 Heinze transferred to Manchester United. He made his first team debut in a 2–2 draw against Bolton. In Manchester Gabriel amassed 3 goals in 52 appearances.
In August 2007 the footballer signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid. He made his official debut on 2 September, against Villarreal, the match that ended 5–0. In 2008 Gabriel scored his first goal for the club in a match against FC Sevilla.
In summer 2009 the defender moved to Olympique Marseille, where he spent two successful seasons. In France Gabriel won the Ligue 1 Championship and the Football League Cup.
In July 2011 Heinze signed a one-year deal with AS Roma. In 2012, he moved to Newell's Old Boys.
In 2010 Gabriel represented Argentina in the World Cup. So far he has 78 caps for the national team.
