Gaël Clichy is a left back of Manchester City. He was born on 26 July 1985 in Toulouse, France.
He began his youth career in 1990, joining the AS Hersoise academy. In 1996 he moved to the Cugnaux academy, then to AS Muret and, eventually, to Tournefeuille. In 2000 Gaël changed the academy for the last time, joining the Cannes youth system. Clichy had been a trainee for two years by the time the club offered him to play in the first team.
In 2002 Gaël was offered a professional contract with Cannes. Clichy signed the contract and the terms suggested he would play till 2003. In 2002/2003 the young footballer made only 15 appearances in the first team, but that did not prevent him from attracting the attention of Arsenal.
In the summer 2003 Gaël transferred to Arsenal. At the beginning Arsène Wenger rarely asked the young back to play in the first team. With the course of time, the French player gained an optimal shape and became a regular and a real heart of the team. From 2003 till 2011 Gaël Clichy made 187 appearances for the club and netted a goal. By the age of 25 Clichy possessed the incredible experience of playing for one of the best Premier League clubs, which helped him to make another career move.
In 2011 the English side Manchester City bought Gaël for £7 million and signed a four-year contract with him. Nowadays Gaël is a regular, who played 28 games for his team.
From 2001 till 2005 Clichy was called for the matches of the France national U-15, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-21 football teams. From 2008 Gaël made 15 appearances for the senior national team.
