Gal Nir is an Israeli goalkeeper, born on 30 March 1983 in Rishon LeZion, Israel.
Nir began his football career at the age of 6, when he joined the youth football academy of FC Hapoel Tel Aviv. Later he continued his football education at the academy of his hometown club FC Hapoel Ironi Rishon LeZion.
Gal signed his first professional deal, when he was just 17 years old. It happened on 1 July 1999. There he spent three seasons, before being loaned to FC Hapoel Kfar Saba, where he spent a year occasionally featuring with the first-team. Later he had another loan spell at FC Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he was being considered as a back up for the club’s first-choice goalkeeper Liran Strauber during the period from 2003 to 2005. In 2005 his contract with FC Hapoel Ironi Rishon LeZion finally expired and he joined FC Maccabi Netanya on a bosman rule. There he returned to his habitual role of the second-choice goalkeeper.
In 2009 Gal clinched a deal with FC Hapoel Ironi Nir from Ramat HaSharon representing the second Israeli division, where he was finally awarded with the first-choice goalkeeper status at the age of 26. Two years later he helped his club to win the Liga Leumit and starting from the 2011/2012 he is defending the net of the Israeli Premier League side.
