Gareth Roberts is a Welsh defender. He was born on 6 February 1978 in Wrexham, Wales.
Gareth’s performance at the senior level started in Liverpool. The footballer penned his first professional contract and began to train with the main squad of the club. Roberts had to face a lot of difficulties, because the head coach of the club did not consider him as a potential regular player. The defender failed to make any appearances for ‘The Reds’ during five years and transferred to Greek side Panionios.
In 1999, Gareth sealed a deal with the new club, but got a chance to return to England after taking part in 15 fixtures for the team. Tranmere Rovers secured the footballer’s services on loan in order to see him in action and consider his signing. The management liked what they saw and they decided to offer Roberts a permanent deal. From 1999, the defender became a regular of the new club and amassed 11 goals in 269 matches during seven years.
In 2006, Gareth put pen to paper of a contract with Doncaster Rovers, where he featured in 141 games and found the net eight times during four years.
In 2010, the footballer finalized a move to Derby County and fired one goal in 96 fixtures for ‘The Rams’ before completing a move to Bury in 2013.
Later on Roberts switched for Notts County.
From 2000 till 2005, Roberts was capped nine times for the Wales national team.
