Geert Arend Roorda is a midfielder of NEC. He was born on 2 March 1988 in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
Geert’s youth career took off in vv Noordbergum, from where the footballer moved to the academy of Heerenveen at the age of eight. Roorda dreamed of playing for the club when a child, and his dreams came true, when the midfielder turned 19. Geert finished school at the havo level (which combined high school and football) and focused on his professional career in Heerenveen. The footballer was asked to join the main team of the club for the 2007/2008 season after his impressing performance during the pre-season tour. Roorda fired a spectacular free kick versus Sivasspor and gained the head coach’s confidence.
The midfielder was given an opportunity to make sub appearances during his début season, but on 19 September 2007, the club manager decided to give the player a place in the starting line-up for the UEFA Cup match against Helsingborgs IF. Geert’s début as a starter came in the game versus Excelsior, which earned the footballer a lot of positive reviews from many pundits. Soon after that fixture, Roorda got an injury and managed to fully recuperate from it only by 12 April 2009.
In 2010, the footballer started to feel the lack of playing practice, which was very disappointing for him. The management of Heerenveen decided to support Geert and sent him on loan to Excelsior, where the midfielder made 13 appearances and fired eight goals during one season.
In the summer 2012, Roorda transferred to NEC.
In 2007, the player was capped one time for the Netherlands national U-21 squad.
