George Thorne is a midfielder, born on 4 January 1993 in Chatham, England.
Thorne’s youth career took off in 2004, when he came on the field of the West Bromwich Albion training ground. Since then, George officially became a trainee of the academy and spent five fruitful years there, getting ready for the pro football performance.
In 2009 the player received an offer to join the first team of the club and he accepted it without any hesitation. One of his main dreams came true, when the young footballer penned a contract with the native club, according to which he performs for ‘The Baggies’ up till now. Due to his young age, or lack of professional playing practice, to be more precise, George had to sit on the substitutes’ bench and glean experience from his older and football-wise teammates.
In 2011 the club began to look for a place, where the midfielder could spend some time on loan. Portsmouth fitted the West Bromwich management perfectly and, besides, ‘Pompey’ did not mind Thorne’s coming on loan. During the first half of 2011/2012, George made four appearances for the temporary club and its management decided to extend his loan spell for another half a year in January 2012. This time the midfielder took part in 12 matches, which became three times better result than in the first half of the season.
Loan spells with Peterborough United, Watford and Derby county followed. In the summer 2014 Thorne penned a permanent deal with The Rams.
From 2009 till 2011, George Thorne was capped for the England national U-16, U-17 and U-18 teams, where he made 16 appearances. From 2010 till 2012, he played 20 games and contributed one goal for the U-19 squad.
