Gia Grigalava was born on 5 August 1989 in Kutaisi, Georgia.
When Gia was 8 years old, his family moved to Rostov-on-Don, where he entered the youth football academy of FC Lokomotiv. Later Gia joined the youth squad of FC Rostov. In 2006 the player got the promotion to the reserve team of the Rostov club. In 2007, Grigalava joined the first team of the club and made his Russian Premier League debut in November 2007.
In 2008 Gia moved to FCSKA Rostov-on-Don, where he soon became a regular starter. During the 2008 season Griglava made 25 appearances for the club.
In January 2009 the player passed the trial with AFC Ajax and even spent a week with the youth squad, but failed to sign a contract with the Dutch side. Later that year he was sent on loan to FC Moscow. At the end of the loan spell the club’s management wanted to sign the footballer on a permanent basis, but FCSKA Rostov leveled his price up.
In 2010 the player spent a year on loan at FC Rostov and then moved to the Russian Premier League side FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod in 2011. Two years later he switched for Krylia Sovetov but shortly afterwards was lured to Anzhi Makhachkala.
In 2009 Gia Grigalava was called-up to join the Russia U21 squad. Since 2011, he is capped to the Georgia national football team.
