Giovanni Marchese is a left back for Catania. He was born on 17 October, 1984 in Caltanissetta, Italy.
Giovanni began his professional career in 2004 after penning a deal with his alma mater Torino. After a season in the first team, young defender was sent out on loan to Treviso to get the necessary match practice. From 2004 till 2005, Giovanni played as a key left back for the club, totaling 31 appearances.
In 2005 Marchese made a move to Chievo. There Giovanni failed to establish himself as a regular, and after making 20 appearances in the 2005/06 season was sent out on loan to Catania, where he spent the 2006/07 season, having played 14 matches. In 2008 Marchese was loaned to A.S. Bari. In 2008 Marchese was sent out on another loan to Salernitana Calcio. During the season Giovanni was a key left back, making a total of 34 appearances.
In 2009 Giovanni was again loaned to Catania. During the 2009/10 season Giovanni featured in only 5 matches for the club. Despite the small number of appearances, Catania management decided to buy the defender and make him a regular.
In 2004 Marchese played 2 matches for Italy U-20, and in 2005 – 3 matches for Italy U-21.
