Gökhan Gönül is a Turkish footballer, right back at the Turkey National Football Team and Fenerbahçe. He was born on April 4, 1985 in Karaköy, Turkey.
The first club Gökhan played for was Gençlerbirliği (Istanbul), which loaned the footballer to Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞspor from League 1. Gökhan Gönül contributed to the promotion of the team to the Turkish Süper Lig in the season of 2006/2007. Afterwards the defender was bought by Fenerbahçe and appeared in his first match for the team on October 2, 2007 in the UEFA Champions League in Moscow (against CSKA Moscow PFC).
After the team coach had called Gökhan a "Turkish Cafu", the footballer’s career was closely followed by scouts from many famous clubs, in particular Juventus FC and Valencia CF.
Gökhan Gönül performed for the Turkey National Football Team for the first time in 2007 in a friendly against the Norway National Football Team.
Gökhan Gönül is incredibly fast and brilliant at supporting his teammates’ attacks. In 2008 the newspaper Goal included him in the list of top 15 defenders in the world and in 2011 Gökhan became the best defender of the Turkish Süper Lig.
