Gonzalo Bergessio is a striker for Catania. He was born on 20 July, 1989 in Córdoba, Argentina.
Gonzalo’s professional career started in 2000 after signing a professional contract with Platenese. From 2000 till 2003 Bergessio was a regular in the starting lineup, taking part in every important match of the club, scoring a total of 28 goals in 90 matches for Platenese.
In 2003 Gonzalo joined Instituto de Córdoba. Gonzalo’s role at the new club was much more modest than before. He was a substitute striker and netted 6 goals in 37 appearances.
In 2005 Bergessio sparked interest of Racing Avellaneda. Gonzalo received a very beneficial offer of a contract and joined the club on a 2-year contract in the summer of 2005. For two seasons Bergessio played 35 matches and scored 12 goals for Racing Avellaneda.
In the 2007/08 season, Bergessio played for Portuguese top-flight club Benfica, where he featured in only 3 matches. In January 2008 Gonzalo moved to Argentine side San Lorenzo. Until the summer of 2009 Bergessio made 48 appearances and scored 29 goals for the club.
In 2009 French Saint-Étienne offered San Lorenzo to purchase Bergessio. After the transfer fee and nuances have been negotiated, Gonzalo immediately signed a deal with the French club. Until 2011 the Argentinian striker played in French Ligue 1, making a total of 47 appearances and scoring 5 goals. In January 2011 Saint-Étienne decided to send the striker on loan to Italian side Catania. For six months of a loan spell at Catania Bergessio played 13 matches and scored 5 goals. After the loan spell ended Calcio Catania decided to buy full rights for the Argentinean from Saint-Étienne.
Since 2008 Gonzalo Bergessio got 3 caps and scored 2 goals for the Argentina national team (as of September 2012).
