Gonzalo ‘Chori’ Castro Irizábal is an Uruguayan footballer. He joined Real Sociedad in 2012 and plays as a left winger.
A Club Nacional de Football’s graduate, he made his professional debut for the team on 13 July 2002 and since then he was an indispensable first-team player. Castro helped his team to win three Primera División Uruguaya titles.
In 2007 he moved to Spain, where he joined RCD Mallorca on a five-year deal. During his first two seasons there he wasn’t a regular player, but in March 2009 he netted in a 1-1 home draw against FC Barcelona in Copa del Rey.
In 2009/10 La Liga season Chori Castro made 35 appearances, scoring six times and at that campaign Mallorca finished fifth.
He scored five goals in 33 La Liga games during the 2010/11 season and netted twice in a 2–1 win against at Valencia CF on 23 October 2010.
Castro made his debut for the Uruguay national team in August 2005.
