The Argentinian footballer Gonzalo Javier Rodriguez performs as a centre back for ACF Fiorentina and the national team.
Gonzalo began his professional career in San Lorenzo. In 2004 he was invited to Villareal by the head coach Manuel Pellegrini and made his first appearance under his guidance.
The player managed to become an undisputed starter of the club, but he was injury prone. In April 2006 Rodriguez seriously damaged his knee and had to forget about World Cup 2006. In August 2006, he tore the crucial ligament in the right knee and was able to recover only by April 2007. Unfortunately, the footballer didn’t get over the trauma completely and suffered a relapse later in June.
In 2008/2009 season, Gonzalo underwent numerous injuries as well. Despite this, he will always be remembered by working in close and productive liaison with another defender Diego Godin. Gonzalo was even noticed by Barcelona observers, but on 8 April 2011, he endured a severe injury again – damaged his left fibula. After the 2011/2012 season, Villarreal had been relegated from La Liga, so Gonzalo decided to join Fiorentina.
Rodriguez was a part of the Argentina U-20 and U-23 national teams. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2003. The footballer was capped six times and scored once for the squad.
