Gonzalo Segares is a Costa Rican defender who currently plays for Chicago Fire in the American MLS.
He started out his football grooming at a hometown Deportivo Saprissa in 2000 and then moved to VCU Rams youth system. At the beginning of his senior career, Gonzalo had a short spell at Virginia Legacy where he played only 9 matches. He enjoyed better fortune joining Chicago Fire in 2005. Segares shortly cemented his place in the starting XI; in 2006, he led the club the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup win. For four years with the Fire, the Costa Rican player made a total of 108 strong appearances.
In 2010, Segares joined the Greek Cypriot club Apollon Limassol. However, having appeared only in 12 matches of the Cypriot First Division, he moved back to Chicago Fire where plays till the date.
Since 2007, Gonzalo Segares is capped to the Costa Rica national team. He featured in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches.
