Gordon Schildenfeld was born on March 18, 1985 in Šibenik, SFR Yugoslavia. He signed his first professional contract with Šibenik in 2001 and stayed with the club till 2007. During his six-season spell at the club he had 94 matches and fired two goals. Gordon’s team were able to take the second place in 2005/2006 championship. His progress attracted the attention of the strongest Croatian clubs.
After only one year of playing for Dinamo Zagreb, Schildenfeld moved to Beşiktaş. During his loan spells at MSV Duisburg (2008/2009) and Sturm Graz (2009/2010) Gordon showed his best defensive abilities. After 34 appearances for the Austrian club Schildenfeld was offered a contract, which he couldn’t turn down. Sturm Graz secured the capture of Gordon who later helped them win the Austrian Football Bundesliga. On July 7, 2011 Gordon penned a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2012 he moved to Russia to join Dinamo Moscow but did not last long and was sent on loan to PAOK. In the summer 2013 Gordon signed a permanent deal with another Greek club Panathinaikos.
In 2006, Schildenfeld was called up to the Croatian U-21 team and three years later on November 14, 2009 he made his debut in the senior squad as his team demolished Liechtenstein.
