Hakan Balta was born in Berlin, Germany on March 23, 1983 and started training at a youth football club called Hertha BSC II. He became a professional footballer three years later, in 2003.
From 2003 till 2007 the defender played for Manisaspor. Over those 4 years he made 116 appearances and 19 goals. In September 2007 Hakan Balta signed up with Galatasaray and immediately got the place in the first team. The number 22 player debuted for the club on September 16, 2007 when he came in as a substitute in a 6-0 winning match against Konyaspor.
As for his international career, Hakan Balta participated in Euro 2008 in matches against Norway and Bosnia-Herzegovia. In the game against Norway the footballer was the first-choice player and stayed the full 90 minutes on the pitch. Turkey celebrated the 2-0 victory in the match.
