Henrikh Mkhitaryan is an attacking midfielder for Borussia Dortmund. He was born on 21 January, 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Henrikh’s youth career started in 1995 at Pyunik Yerevan football academy. In 2006 the young midfielder was promoted to the senior squad of Pyunik. There Mkhitaryan played until 2009, totaling 70 appearances and 30 goals.
In 2009 Mkhitaryan attracted the attention of Ukrainian club Metalurh, which made him a good offer. Henrikh accepted the offer and joined the club in the 2009/10 season. For a year he was the best newcomer in the team. Henrikh featured in all matches of Metalurh in the season, making a total of 37 league appearances and scoring 12 goals.
After a brilliant season at MetaDon, the Armenian player sparked interest of Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, which was ready to pay a large sum for the Armenian talent. In 2010 Shakhtar paid 7.5 million dollars for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and signed him on a long-term contract. Henrikh had become a solid player with Ukrainian champions and scored 38 goals in 72 appearances.
In the summer 2013 he was lured away to Borussia Dortmund.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan holds numerous awards. He is the fourfold champion of Armenian Premier League, twofold champion of the Ukrainian Premier League, twofold Armenian Footballer of the year.
In 2006 Henrikh earned 5 caps and scored 1 goal for Armenia U-17. In the 2006/07 season, he made 6 appearances and netted 1 goal for Armenia U-19. From 2006 to 2010 the midfielder won 13 caps and scored 9 goals for Armenia U-21. Since 2007 Henrikh Mkhitaryan represents the senior side of the national team of Armenia.
